Blogging Basics for Blogger

This is a continuation of the previous post - How to Create a Blog Using Blogger - which is based off a presentation I gave last week.

We left off with a brand new baby blog with no posts or anything.  Poor baby blog!  Let's change that.

The slides are pretty self-explanatory.

If you know how to use a word processor, you can do this.  I believe in you!

Or wherever you put them.  If you can't find them, ask your kids (or grandkids) to help you find them.  I'm sure they'll be able to locate them in no time.

Note: I'm using Windows.  Non-Windows users will have to find a different tutorial or figure this part out themselves since I'm not familiar with other operating systems.

If you want to select more than one photo to upload from this screen, simply click on each one.  No need to hold "Ctrl".

It's easier to insert it in the right place the first time since Blogger can be a bit fussy about placement afterwards.  If all else fails, remove the photo and insert it where you want it.

Default is "medium" and "center".  The images in this post are "X-Large" so you can see my screenshots better, but I often leave it on the default settings.

You'll never guess which blog we'll be linking to.

It doesn't have to be "An awesome blog".  It could be named "The most awesome, wonderful blog EVER!"  Or not.

The URL is the domain name, or website address, to your link.  You can link other web pages or even email addresses.

Standard link format is blue underlined font.  When you've visited the site, the font turns purple.  You can change the color and format of your links if you'd like.  I recommend making your links stand out in some way (color, emphasis, etc.) so people know it's a link and not just another line of text.

I know my arrow is pointing to "Update" instead of "Publish".  I didn't originally intend to add links, so I published the page without the link.  I'm now claiming this shows how you can go back and edit previously published posts and it was 100% intentional.

Yeah...totally intentional.

To edit, delete, or promote your posts, hover your pointer over the post name and the options will pop up.  When you click "View Blog", it will open a new tab and you can see your beautiful new blog!

You are now equipped with the basics necessary to run your own blog.  What are you waiting for?  Get out there and start blogging!

Coming soon - "How to Adjust Blogger's Privacy Settings" and "Customizing Your Blog".
