I'm Gonna Write (500 Words)

Back in September I decided to rewrite the lyrics to "I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles)" to create a more writerly version. I'm sharing my creation now with you.

I may also sing it at the karaoke event at the LDStorymakers Conference next month. Because I can.

This is dedicated to all the editors and agents out there.

"I'm Gonna Write (500 Words)"

When I wake up, well, I know what I will do,
I'll sit down and knock a chapter out for you.
When I'm plotting, yeah, I know what I will do,
I'll plot out the perfect story just for you.
If I get stuck, well, I know what I will do,
I'll break down my writer's block just for you.
And when I query, hey, I know what I will do,
I will send all my queries out to you.

Chorus:
Oh, I will write five hundred words
And I will write five hundred more
Just to be the one to write a manuscript
To send to your door

When I'm writing, yeah, I know what I will do,
I'll revise my every word just for you.
And when the money comes in for the work I do,
I will pass your percentage on to you.
When I go home, oh, I know what I will do,
I'll avoid Facebook and Twitter, too.
And when I'm published, well, I know what I will do,
I'll dedicate the next three sequels to you.

[Chorus]

[insert da-dat-dah part]

When I'm lonely, well, I know what I will do,
I'll remember that my manuscript is due.
My friends will go out, yeah, the way they always do
While I'm working hard to make my dreams come true.
As I'm waiting, oh, as writers always do,
For replies to queries and submissions, too,
I'll be dreaming, as I know I'm going to do
And I'll write it down for book number two.

[Chorus]

[insert da-dat-dah part]

[Chorus]

[crowd cheers wildly as I bow deeply and dramatically]

Thank you.
